Sleep Softly Baby

Crimson - fiction with an edge! Sleep Softly Baby

A tightly-woven novel fuelled by psychological tension, Sleep Softly Baby tells the story of Erin O’Neill, a young journalist who marries into a wealthy family only to find that they disapprove of her.

But when her infant child dies suddenly of an apparent cot-death Erin become convinced that the baby has been murdered. And her attempts to unravel the mystery of the child’s death, lead to suspicion falling on her and her eventual incarceration in a mental institution.

A well-paced story with elements of romance to lighten the dark underlying plot.

I picked up this book while visiting Ireland from the States. I was hooked and had a hard time putting it down so that I could enjoy my visit to Ireland! I would love to read more from this author.

I think this book was fantastic. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. It was the best book I have ever read as you didn't know what would happen next. The characters where excellent and the language and content was superb. I would love to know if Carol Magill has any more books that I could read as she is a brilliant author and I found Sleep Softly Baby very intense, but exciting. I loved this book please tell me theres more!!!

The book is excellent.

At the start, the form of writing is so simple and 'ordinary' that I wondered if there would be any real depth. But you get so drawn in to the developing story and even though you think you can predict the ending, you still have these real doubts. Doubts about whether Erin is actually going mad or not, and doubts about whether her mother-in-law is as cold and evil as you are first led to believe.

I think the book would make a great film!
